Removing Barriers to Learning for Michigan Children
For children facing economic hardship, access to food, everyday necessities, and educational opportunities can shape how fully they participate in school. Breaking Barriers for Kids & Families helps address these needs for children and families in Wayne and Oakland Counties, particularly those who qualify under Title One or ALICE criteria.
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit began as a grassroots initiative working with local teachers. By listening to educators, the organization identified essential items students and their families needed for learning and growth. That practical response has since developed into a year-round program, extending assistance beyond the school calendar.
Today, Breaking Barriers for Kids & Families operates food pantries, STEAM learning labs, and greenhouse initiatives. Its food programs help families meet immediate needs, while its educational programs give students opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, the arts, mathematics, and sustainability.
Inclusivity is also central to this work. Differently abled students participate alongside their peers, creating a learning environment where children with varied abilities can contribute, build skills, and engage with new ideas.
Our agency has chosen to support Breaking Barriers for Kids & Families by raising awareness and funds for its local programs. You can participate by referring a friend, relative, neighbor, or colleague to our agency for a complimentary insurance quote. For every referral received, our agency will donate $10 to Breaking Barriers for Kids & Families.
Each qualified referral helps the organization continue providing practical resources and educational experiences to children and families across Wayne and Oakland Counties.
